I was riding the subway the other day and saw a public service announcement from New York City’s Metropolitan Transit Authority. It informed me that 141 people were struck by its trains in 2012. And that 55 of them were killed.
Frankly, I think that the trains could do better. Those things can reach speeds of 55-60 MPH. A 39 percent kill rate is simply unacceptable. As a loyal commuter, I expect improvement.
